The Monte Carlo Method in Quantum Field Theory
نویسنده
چکیده
This series of six lectures is an introduction to using the Monte Carlo method to carry out nonperturbative studies in quantum field theories. Path integrals in quantum field theory are reviewed, and their evaluation by the Monte Carlo method with Markov-chain based importance sampling is presented. Properties of Markov chains are discussed in detail and several proofs are presented, culminating in the fundamental limit theorem for irreducible Markov chains. The example of a real scalar field theory is used to illustrate the MetropolisHastings method and to demonstrate the effectiveness of an action-preserving (microcanonical) local updating algorithm in reducing autocorrelations. The goal of these lectures is to provide the beginner with the basic skills needed to start carrying out Monte Carlo studies in quantum field theories, as well as to present the underlying theoretical foundations of the method.

Monte Carlo Hamiltonian: Generalization to Quantum Field Theory
Monte Carlo techniques with importance sampling have been extensively applied to lattice gauge theory in the Lagrangian formulation. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to compute the excited states using the conventional Monte Carlo algorithm. Our recently developed approach: the Monte Carlo Hamiltonian method, has been designed to overcome the difficulties of the conventional approach. I...
متن کاملSolvent Effect on Aquaporin4
Aquaporins are integral membrane proteins from a larger family of major intrinsic proteins that formpores in the membrane of biological cells. Aquaporins form tetramers in the cell membrane with eachmonomer acting as a water channel. In this research, the AQP4 tetramer was modeled from its PDBstructure file, then, we have performed the intraction of aquaporin4 in different temperatures (298k,300...
متن کاملAlgorithm for Computing Excited States in Quantum Theory
Monte Carlo techniques have been widely employed in statistical physics as well as in quantum theory in the Lagrangian formulation. However, in the conventional approach, it is extremely difficult to compute the excited states. Here we present a different algorithm: the Monte Carlo Hamiltonian method, designed to overcome the difficulties of the conventional approach. As a new example, applicat...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Simulations for Quantum Field Theories InvoMng Fermions
We present a new variant of a Monte Carlo procedure for euclidean quantum field theories with fermions. On a lattice every term contributing to the expansion of the fermion determinant is interpreted as a configuration of self-avoiding oriented closed loops which represent the fermionic vacuum fluctuations. These loops are related to Symanzik's polymer description of euclidean quantum field the...

In this note we present a new numerical method for solving Lattice Quantum Field Theory. This Source Galerkin Method is fundamentally different in concept and application from Monte Carlo based methods which have been the primary mode of numerical solution in Quantum Field Theory. Source Galerkin is not probabilistic and treats fermions and bosons in an equivalent manner.
